The loco was withdrawn and delivered to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway for preservation on 23 August 1984.

05001 rests at Sandown, Isle of Wight on 29-7-76. Initially the loco was allocated to Parkeston Quay in 1956 where it remained until 1966. Then it was transferred to the Southern Region to work the electrification trains. This required a few modifications to the loco as the loading guage for the Island was smaller than the loco. 05001 was previously 11140, then D2554 and then ultimatly renumbered 97803 on 25-1-81.Previous | Next06005 Dundee 24-5-80
