This is where it all started. At the time of writing there are about 276 main line diesels 'preserved' around the country but this picture, taken from a train passing the site of Reading's Gaswork sidings, shows D821 GREYHOUND, the very first privately preserved mainline diesel.  The 'Warship' with 'Hymek' D7029 (bought for £3240 !)  rest in a very exposed position as a member of the DTG gets to work on the class 42. 13-11-76
